Combat Queen of India: My First Freelance Web Project Goes Live
My first freelance project is officially live: Combat Queen of India — a Defence & Geopolitics Media Portal designed and developed from scratch. Lessons learned from local dev to production.
The Thrill and Responsibility of Freelancing
Transitioning from personal side-projects to building a live commercial platform for a client is a transformative milestone for any web developer. When I was entrusted with creating Combat Queen of India—a dedicated Defence and Geopolitics Media Portal—I experienced a combination of excitement and genuine nervousness.
Building personal projects allows you the luxury of making arbitrary design choices. But building someone else's vision carries direct responsibility: client deadlines, brand reputation, real readers, and stringent standards for speed and reliability.
Key Capabilities & Engineering Highlights
To deliver an editorial experience that rivaled mainstream media platforms, we engineered a comprehensive suite of features:
- Modern Editorial UI: Built with React and Vite for blazing-fast transitions, paired with Tailwind CSS for utility-driven, clean responsive typography.
- Live Geopolitics News & Video Feed: Asynchronous data fetching that updates readers with the latest defense analyses and video dispatches.
- Structured Category Taxonomy: Clean compartmentalization of military developments, international affairs, defense technology, and regional security.
- Instant Search & Discovery: Client-side filtered search allowing users to find specific briefings in milliseconds.
- Multi-Language Accessibility: Layout adaptations designed to preserve typography balance across diverse languages.
- Search Engine Optimization: Custom meta tags, structured JSON-LD schemas, OpenGraph images, and semantic HTML5 hierarchy to guarantee top search indexing.
The 'Works on My Machine' Rite of Passage
There were days during the build where everything ran like butter on localhost:5173, but
immediately broke when deployed to production due to asset path resolutions, DNS records, and SSL
configurations. That's when I learned firsthand that 'Works on my machine' isn't just an
internet meme—it is an inevitable rite of passage for every practicing engineer.
Seeing the website go live at combatqueen.in and having the client express complete satisfaction with the result was an unforgettable feeling. It proved that discipline, continuous debugging, and listening closely to user needs always pays off.
